Someone very kindly gifted me the first four Twilight films for Christmas. I'll admit, the books were a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine - the writing is terrible, the female protagonist is whiny and irritating, but they were an easy read.
I had already seen the first two films and wasn't sold. Seeing as they are now part of my collection, the least I can do is give them all a chance.
The opening to the series was, for me, seriously disappointing. I'm a fan of Catherine Hardwicke's previous work, and think Kristen Stewart was brilliant in Into the Wild. I think the problem is that a cast and crew of indie filmmakers were bought together to create a film that, unbeknownst to most, was to become part of a phenomenon.
Yes, there are aspects of the ridiculous - the growling, the sparkling - but I feel these are a fault in the stories, as opposed to a fault of the film. With a following as large as that of Twilight, there was no way these traits could be left out, even if they are an easy source of mockery for the film.
This film is a faithful adaptation to the books, but it isn't for everyone.

Over the course of 1 year I plan to review every movie I watch. A small task, you'd think, but I'm the kind of girl who sits and watches 6 movies in a row. I try to go to the cinema at least twice a week. I'll watch any movie that's on the TV. I have more DVDs than I do socks (and I love socks). Blogging starts September 24. This could be interesting...
Time Well Spent...
